At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust:

  • We employ 7,000 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work
  • We treat over six hundred thousand patients a year from the most serious of emergencies to planned operations and procedures
  • We offer care across five hospital sites, using state-of-the-art facilities.
  • We have a total of 996 beds across the five sites

Blackburn & Burnley hospitals offer a comprehensive range of in and out-patient services, including in-patient psychiatry and young disabled facilities and outpatient clinics from a range of visiting specialities from tertiary referral centres. There are full diagnostic and scanning services, with both sites fully supported by Postgraduate Medical and Dental facilities with fully equipped libraries.

Both Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital benefit from the free shuttle bus service for patients and staff. The service runs every 30 minutes from each site, starting at 06:15 and finishing at 21:30 Monday to Friday and a separate service on weekends and Bank Holidays. Also benefiting from this service are the doctors who live in the on-site accommodation.
